Watch out!!!! Just before trawsfyndd on the A470, there is wot seems to be about a million miles of straight. This is great if you want to test out ya bike, but I got nicked there last year for doin 120. Only feels like 30 down there. Cop was in Mondeo ST220 an was waitin in a gateway or summat. Also, if ya see any yellow lines painted accross the road, drop ur speed cuz he used that and a change of priority as the 2 fixed points for his VASCAR device!

The cameras are in vans, 5 vans cover the whole of north wales. To check their location on any given day, check the local rag "The Daily Post", under the heading "Speed Watch". watch the double bend under the railway bridge and the bridge over the river at the "Fairy Glen" hotel. This section of the A470 is part of what some know as the welsh TT.... A5,(Nesscliffe to Knockin), B4396(Knockin to Morton),A495(Morton to Llanyblodwel) B4391(Llanyblodwel to Bala), A4212(Bala to trawsfynydd), A470(Trawsfynydd to Betws y coed), A5(Betws y coed back to Nesscliffe). There is another version where you cut off half of the A4212 and do the second section of the B4391 to Ffestiniog and join the A470 there.

Or, alternatively, Start on A470 in Dolgellau.(North) Take A496 to Barmouth and follow coast to Harlech (Castell and cafes in High Town)keep to main road until A470 then onto Porthmadog. Plenty of good sweeping bends and long straights with twisty's thrown in to keep you awake.

isn't this plod central though? i remember the road works, so the surface should be good, but isn't it all too full of tourists in the summer?

Start at the petrol station at Trawsfynydd, and head towards Porthmadog. After approx 3 miles there will be a turning on the right signposted A470 Ffestiniog. The road sets out through the hills ith a varying amount of turns from tight hairpins to sweeping switchbacks. You enter Blaenau Ffestiniog which will keep you at 30mph for what seems like forever. Following the signs to Betws-Y-Coed, you start the steep climb out of the village and pass the Lech Wedd (Spelling?) Slate Mines, worth a swift visit. Following a deep decent out of the slate hills the corners become more open and swift, cutting through the bottom of the valley. The road surface picks up quality, following a lot of work over the last year or so, as you near Betws-Y-Coed. Watch for the tight right hander under the railway bridge or you'll end up shooting off down the turn off. Join up with the A5 and turn left down hill and into Betws-Y-Coed.
